Film critics’ TV awards announced

‘Sri Guruvayurappan,’ directed by Vayalar Madhavan Kutty (Soorya TV) has won the award for best teleserial in 2008, instituted by Kerala Film Critics Association. The awards were announced by Atlas group chairman M M Ramachandran, Jury chairman George Onakkur and other jury members. ‘Chilluvilakku’ (Santhivila Dinesh) and ‘Vishudha Alphonsamma’ (Sibi Yogiyaveedan) shared the second best serial award. ‘Swami Ayyappan’ by Suresh Unnithan was adjudged as the most popular serial. Kollam Thulasi (Kadamattathu Kathanar) and Chippy (Sree Guruvayurappan) were chosen the best actors in male and female roles. ‘The way’ directed by Bijulal is the best telefilm. ‘Daivathinte melvilasam’ by Biju K Antony was adjudged the second best tele-film.

Septuagenarian Malayali actor Thilakan is elated with his performance in his latest release “Orkuka Vallapozhum”, which he called among one of the very few roles that he had “really enjoyed”. “I have been in the Malayalam film industry since 1973 and I have done several roles and the role of Sethumadavan in this film would rate among one of the very few roles that I have really enjoyed,” said 72-year-old Thilakan while talking to mediapersons here Sunday.

“This may not be an out and out commercial film, but this is a film which will certainly stand out,” Thilakan said. Directed by debutant Sohanlal, “Orkuka Vallapozhum” tells the story of 75-year-old Sethumadavan. The story is told in three parts as Sethumadavan traces his childhood, youth and old age. The film also marks the arrival of two young singers – Rajalekshmi and Anand.

“I am really grateful to music director Jayachandran who was willing to try out new singers and that is how I got an opportunity to sing in this film,” Rajalekshmi said.

Kavya to tie the nuptial knot on Feb 5

Kavya Madhavan, the most popular actress in the Kerala Film Industry is all set to enter wedlock on the 5th of February. Former child artiste and present software techie, Nishcal Chandran is the groom and the marriage will happen at the Sree Mookambika Temple in Kalloor between 10 and 10.30 am. Kavya is expected to organize a feast and reception for her friends in Kanghangad on the 12th of February. The actress will also hold another reception on the same day at Hotel Le Meridian, Kochi, which will be exclusive for cinema workers and film stars.

Kavya who has stopped accepting fresh offers is presently on the sets of ‘Pattanathil Bhootham’ (the film she stars along with Mammootty). Although Kavya had given dates for the film till the 31st of March, the director of the film ‘Johny Antony’ has confirmed that her portions would be completed by the end of January. That way the actress would have enough time to attend to her marriage chores.

Kavya was very selective in choosing films in 2008 and was seen only in a few – ‘Twenty20′ and ‘Madambi’. Her only other project that is waiting for release is ‘Banaras’, which is presently in post production.

One of the most accomplished actresses of the late eighties, Sumalatha will shortly make a comeback to Malayalam. The actress who had disappeared into oblivion after her marriage in 1991, from an industry which had powered her with the best of the roles, had been the most enquired and demanded actress of her generation. Sumalatha who was leading a quiet life as the wife of politician turned Kannada super star Ambareesh, will give life to a character named Thankom George, in the new Prithviraj movie ‘Calendar’. The character of Thankom george is a professor, a widow who now lives for her only daughter Kochu Rani.

Kavya Madhavan is all set to tie the knot with Nishal Chandran, a technical advisor working for the National Bank of Kuwait. The marriage is scheduled to take place before March 2009. Nishal has acted as a child artiste in films like Aham, Kizhakkunarum Pakshi, Ilavamkodu Desam, Gandharvam etc. When contacted, the actress said that she is happy to get a person who was in the film field. The marriage was fixed at Neeleshwaram, her native place, after looking the horoscopes. Nishal, is the younger son of Mani Chandramohan and Chandramohan of Kayamkulam. For the past 35 years, Chandramohan is employed in Kuwait. Nishal has a house in Kumarapuram.
